Our second in person conference was held on Sunday, February 5th, 2024 at The Governor's Academy in Byfield Massachusetts. This year we received the most sign ups, and hosted more than 150 international students from 13 schools at the conference.
This year’s conference theme is “Bridging Worlds: A Cultural Kaleidoscope” — seeking to empower students to transcend boundaries, appreciate diversity, and build bridges of understanding in an increasingly globalized world.
Our keynote speaker this year is Temba Maqubela, the current Headmaster of the Groton School with a diverse experience across continents, fighting for the rights of international voices. He delivered a powerful speech on his experiences against Apartheid in South Africa, Ubuntu philosophy, and the importance of love and forgiveness.
This year we had a wide array of student-held workshops led by students from all schools and backgrounds:
Who’s the Fairest of them all — The Reality of East Asian Beauty Ideals
Convincing the world of Grinfluenza
Intersection of art and cultures in Anime
Broken Mirrors: The Trouble With A Lack of Representation
Gender Roles: An International Perspective, The World of Busking and Its Cultural Implications
Breaking down borders that prevents minority healthcare
Reshaping the Lens: International Students in the Eyes of Media
International Parenthood: Expectations and Relationships
The International travel MASTER guide
Queerness in International Cultures
Food: Manifestation of our international culture — what we learn and what we lose
Participating schools include Fay School, Cushing Academy, The Governor's Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, Milton Academy, The Newman School, St. Paul's School, Thayer Academy, Dana Hall School, Middlesex School, The Cambridge School of Weston, St. Mark's School, and Lawrence School.
"ISC was an incredible experience for me, both as a planner and a participant. It grants me the opportunity to listen to the stories and perspectives of people I wouldn’t meet otherwise and reminds me to expand my horizons beyond the bubble I have grown accustomed to. Overall, it was a superb experience that I can’t wait to have again.” — Edward Shen 25’
